Idaho’s senior population has exploded, growing 51% over the last decade, more than double the national pace among all 50 states.  More than 340,000 seniors call the Gem State home, and that number grows every year.

The policy decisions made in Boise about nursing homes, Medicaid, and our careforce are the ones that ripple through the daily lives of Idaho families – squeezing budgets, forcing caregivers out of the workforce, and determining whether a parent or grandparent can age with dignity close to home

Since the pandemic, Idaho has lost thirty-one senior care communities. The state ranks last in nurses per capita. Medicaid cuts threaten to push even more providers to the brink with the Idaho Health Care Association warning that some rural communities may have to shut their doors.
